The Chicago Sky announced on Tuesday that Enes Kanter Freedom has been barred from attending the team’s home games at Wintrust Arena following his ejection from Sunday’s loss to the Indiana Fever after a confrontation with Cloud.
Sky owner Michael Alter delivered the announcement at a rare news conference, saying Freedom is not permitted inside the arena for Sky games "unless sometime in the future he’s able to prove to us to our satisfaction that he is able to abide by our rules without being a potential threat." The team did not provide further details about what specific steps would be required for reconsideration.
Alter also said he believed Freedom had intended to "be provocative" in his actions during the game. The club ejected Freedom from the contest after the on-court incident and has now imposed the venue ban pending any future demonstration of compliance with team rules.
Separately, an individual identified as Graham criticized Freedom’s behavior, saying Kanter "is using his freedom to punch down." No additional context on Graham’s role or further disciplinary measures was provided by the Sky in their statement.
The decision marks one of the more public disciplinary moves by the franchise in recent memory and closes the immediate matter at Wintrust Arena, while leaving open the possibility of a future reassessment should Freedom meet the conditions outlined by the owner.
