Green Party leader Polanski has said he will not attempt to overturn a party motion that characterises Zionism as racism, although he signalled an intention to seek amendments to its wording.
Polanski told party members and supporters that while he was uncomfortable with the current formulation, he did not have the authority or appetite to remove the motion from the party record. He added that the motion would therefore remain in effect until 2028.
The motion, which explicitly labels Zionism as a form of racism, has been a point of contention both inside and outside the Green Party. Polanski’s decision not to overturn it reflects a choice to respect internal party procedures and the lifespan given to such motions.
Polanski said he would pursue changes through the party’s established processes rather than attempting to repeal the motion outright. His stance leaves the existing wording intact for the near term while opening the door to negotiations over amended language in the future.
