Second phase of releases under way
Hundreds more prisoners have been freed under the second phase of an early-release scheme, officials confirmed. The latest tranche of releases expands the pool of eligible inmates as the programme continues to be implemented.
Expanded eligibility
The second tranche includes prisoners who are serving sentences of up to two and a half years. Those individuals are now being processed for early release in line with the scheme's criteria.
Administration and oversight
Prison authorities are carrying out the releases according to the procedures set out for the programme. Local agencies and relevant services have been notified to manage the administrative and practical arrangements that follow each release.
Ongoing implementation
This second wave of early releases follows the initial phase of the scheme and marks a further step in its rollout. Officials say the scheme will continue to be administered in stages as outlined by the responsible authorities.
