Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro Max pushes the company’s Pro lineup to new physical extremes: a 6.9-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display, heavier dimensions and what Apple bills as its largest-ever battery upgrade. The handset pairs the enlarged screen with the A20 Pro processor, 12GB of RAM and iOS 27, positioning the device as the company’s most capable “superphone” in terms of size, endurance and raw performance.
Design and display
The 18 Pro Max sports a 6.9in Super Retina XDR panel with a 120Hz refresh rate and 460 pixels per inch, delivering a very large canvas for video, games and productivity. Its dimensions are 163.4 x 78 x 8.75mm and it weighs 249g, making it both Apple’s biggest and heaviest Pro model to date. The device retains IP68 water resistance (up to 6 metres for 30 minutes) and moves on to a USB-C connector while keeping features such as satellite communication and ultra-wideband (UWB).
Performance and software
Under the hood is Apple’s A20 Pro chip paired with 12GB of RAM and storage options of 256GB, 512GB or 1TB. The phone runs iOS 27 and introduces on-device Siri AI capabilities that Apple says will enhance assistance and privacy. Connectivity has been upgraded to include 5G, Wi‑Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, NFC, Thread and GNSS, reflecting Apple’s emphasis on faster wireless performance and smart-home interoperability.
Cameras and battery
The 18 Pro Max carries triple 48-megapixel rear modules: a primary 48MP sensor, a 48MP ultra-wide and a 48MP 4x telephoto, alongside an 18MP front-facing camera. Apple also highlights a variable aperture on the main camera as a significant update for low-light and computational photography. Critically for a device of this size, Apple says the battery improvements make the 18 Pro Max a true two-day phone under typical use.
Price and positioning
The 18 Pro Max starts at £1,299 (€1,599/$1,299/A$2,299), a premium level that reflects its larger scale and upgraded components; it is no longer Apple’s most expensive handset, however, following the launch of the £2,000 iPhone Duo. The new model aims to serve buyers who prioritise the largest screen, maximum battery life and top-tier camera and processing performance within Apple’s smartphone range.
