LSU used a dominant second quarter and stifling defense to run past visiting Texas Southern 131-22 on Thursday night, producing a 109-point margin that set a school record and stands as the largest winning margin in Division I history.
The Tigers, ranked No. 9, poured in 40 unanswered points in the second quarter. Guard Jada Williams scored 16 of her game-high 18 points in that period as LSU overwhelmed Texas Southern and built an insurmountable lead.
LSU’s defense fueled the burst, forcing nine turnovers in the second quarter alone and holding the visiting Tigers without a field goal in 13 attempts during the period. Texas Southern finished with just 22 points for the game as LSU controlled both ends of the court throughout the contest.
The victory improved LSU to 2-0 on the season. Beyond the historic margin, the game underscored LSU’s depth and defensive intensity early in the campaign as the Tigers seek to maintain their national ranking.
