Panthers pile on Eagles' injuries as Cardinals and Chicago win tight games

Carolina beat an injury-depleted Philadelphia side as other NFL fixtures produced narrow finishes, with Chicago holding off Atlanta in a quarterback's return and the Cardinals edging the Rams on a last-play score.

Panthers take advantage of depleted Eagles

The Carolina Panthers cruised past an injury-riddled Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, with quarterback Bryce Young throwing for 281 yards and two touchdowns to tight end Tommy Tremble while running back Chuba Hubbard piled up 120 rushing yards and a score. Carolina, now 3-2, tightened its grip in the second half as the Panthers repeatedly picked apart an Eagles defence that was missing key personnel.

Philadelphia's struggles were exacerbated by absences on offense. The Eagles, who fell to 2-4, were without starting quarterback Jalen Hurts and leading rusher Saquon Barkley. Hurts has been placed on injured reserve and will miss at least four games after being diagnosed with a blood clot in his calf. Tanner McKee started in his place, finishing 26-of-45 for 215 yards and one touchdown.

Carolina's victory was characterized by an effective balance of play-calling and opportunistic production in the second half, allowing the visitors to pull away as Philadelphia laboured to replace its injured leaders. The result deepens the Eagles' early-season woes while giving the Panthers momentum as they seek consistency.

Close finishes elsewhere

In Chicago, the home side held off a late surge from Atlanta in a game marked by the return of their quarterback, denying the visitors a comeback attempt. Meanwhile in Los Angeles, the Arizona Cardinals stunned the Rams with a decisive play on the final snap to secure a dramatic win. Both matchups produced tight conclusions that will carry significance for playoff positioning and team morale as the season progresses.
