Two Westminster men re-arrested on suspicion of aiding Iranian intelligence in RAF Fairford inquiry

Counter-terrorism officers have re-arrested a 24-year-old UK national and a 25-year-old UK‑Iranian national from central London on suspicion of assisting a foreign intelligence service under the 2023 National Security Act, in connection with last month’s events at RAF Fairford.

Counter-terrorism police have re-arrested two men from central London as part of an investigation into events at RAF Fairford last month.

A 24-year-old UK national and a 25-year-old UK/Iranian national, both from the Westminster area, were detained on suspicion of assisting a foreign intelligence service in breach of the 2023 National Security Act, police said. The arrests were carried out by specialist officers leading the inquiry.

The detentions are described as re-arrests, indicating the pair have previously been held in relation to the same investigation. Police have stated the move forms part of ongoing inquiries into the incident at RAF Fairford, but have not provided further operational details.

The National Security Act 2023 introduced measures to address a range of threats, including offences relating to assistance to foreign intelligence services. The legislation has been used by authorities in cases where alleged collaboration with foreign state actors is suspected.

The investigation remains active. It was not immediately clear whether the men would be charged or held in custody pending further police action.
